Fred Bellefeuille

Legal Counsel Union of Ontario Indians

 

Fred Bellefeuille is a citizen of Nipissing First Nation and works as Department Director and Legal Counsel for the Union of Ontario Indians.

 

A graduate of Nipissing University, Mr. Bellefeuille received his LLB from Osgoode Hall Law School at York University with a focus on Aboriginal Lands, Resources and Rights.

 

He is the recipient of several academic awards from Osgoode Hall Law School and Nipissing University. Mr. Bellefeuille has extensive experience in a wide range of practice areas, including governmental negotiations, treaty specific claims, elections and appeals, First Nation employment law, contract law, resource law, legislative drafting (First Nation constitutions, laws, codes and bylaws), legislative analysis and advocacy, tribunal and trial advocacy, and First Nation governmental affairs.

 

He has spoken at conferences, workshops and public forums on topics such as treaties and their interpretation, Aboriginal self-government, law and First Nations rights. He is a member of the Law Society of Ontario.
